British troops rest in the snow, February 1917
Lantern slide, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1917.
Soldiers, possibly from the Machine Gun Corps, rest in the snow outside a house in Arras. This town was near the front and three British armies, the First, Third and Fifth, were concentrated in the area around Arras. Shortly after this photograph was taken all three formations would be engaged in a major offensive against the Germans.
From a box of 73 lantern slides.
