Camp near Pozieres on the Somme, February 1917
Lantern slide, World War One, Western Front (1914-1916), 1917.
Located on the Bazentin-Pozieres Road, the camp consisted of rows of prefabricated Nissen huts. Made from a half-cylindrical skin of corrugated steel, the hut was named after its inventor, Major Peter Norman Nissen of the 29th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Cheap and easy to mass-produce, Nissen huts were also portable.
