German prisoners in the office, Handforth Camp, 1917

Lantern slide, World War One, POWs (1914-1918), 1917.

Handforth camp in Cheshire was opened in November 1914 in a converted rubber factory. It was initially used to intern enemy civilians. As the war progressed, sailors from the German navy and merchant fleet were also imprisoned there.
