German prisoners receiving parcels from Germany at Handforth Camp in Cheshire, 1917
Lantern slide, World War One, POWs (1914-1918), 1917.
The Red Cross was responsible for sending parcels to prisoners of war (POWs). They posted food parcels, medical supplies, clothes, books and recreational items. The food parcels in particular made a huge difference to prisoners' well being throughout Europe as the rations they received were often inadequate.
From a box of 60 lantern slides.
