Waistcoat from the uniform of a French General Officer or Marshal 1690-1710
This magnificent item of uniform would have been worn by a French General Officer or Marshal during the period of the Nine Years War (1688-1697) or the War of the Spanish Succession (1702-1713).
The waistcoat has full-length sleeves which follow late 17th century civilian fashion. The pink dye used for the waistcoat is a natural one made from insects. Natural dyes were not usually long-lasting, but this uniform has survived in good condition.
