Colour of the 10th Battalion, Sudanese Regiment, Egyptian Army, 1883

This colour was presented to the 10th Battalion by Captain B D A Donne, who was responsible for the raising of the unit in 1883. Donne was on secondment from The Royal Sussex Regiment. The Colour was carried in action at Suakin between 1 March and 14 May 1885, and the battles of Gemaizah (20 December 1888) and Toski (3 August 1889), during the Egyptian campaign against the Mahdist leader, Khalifa Abdullahi ibn Muhammed (1846-1899).
