Brass flintlock pistol used by Highland regiments, 1780 (c)

Highland regiments were allowed to carry traditional weapons, such as broadswords or all-metal pistols, on active service. Most of these pistols were produced by the gunmakers Isaac Bissell and John Waters in Birmingham, which was one of Britain's most important centres of gun manufacture in the eighteenth century.
