Waistbelt clasp, officer, Middlesex Artillery Volunteers, 1860-1891
When an invasion scare in 1859 led to a flood of volunteers forming new military units to defend Great Britain, artillery volunteers corps were formed. A number of Artillery units were raised in London and Middlesex in 1860 and 1861. They were used either as field or garrison artillery and all became part of the Territorial Force in 1908.
Volunteer corps wore silver or white metal insignia, until the creation of the Territorial Force (TF) in 1908.
