All ranks' beret badge, Long Range Desert Group, 1944 (c)

The badge of the Long Range Desert Group Bronze depicts a scorpion within a circlet, below which are the letters 'LRDG'. Legend has it that the badge was designed by one of the unit's earliest recruits, a New Zealander called Gunner C. Grimsey who was stung by a scorpion. This particular badge was owned by the unit's third commander Lieutenant-Colonel David Lloyd Owen.
