Other ranks' busby badge, 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers), 1862 (c)
Originally raised by the East India Company in 1652, this regiment switched to British Army control following its distinguished service during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) when it was known as the 1st Bengal (European) Light Infantry. In 1862 it was given the title 'Royal Bengal Fusiliers' and the numeral 101 in the order of precedence. In 1881 it was amalgamated with another former Company unit, the 104th Regiment, to form The Royal Munster Fusiliers.
