Medals awarded to Brigadier Smith Dun, 1st Punjab Regiment and Burma Military Police, 1936-1946

The medals are: Military Cross 1946; Indian General Service Medal 1908-35, with clasp, 'Burma 1930-32'; Indian General Service Medal 1936-39, with clasp, 'North West Frontier 1936-37'; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; British War Medal 1939-45, with oak leaf for Mention in Despatches.

Born in 1906, Smith Dun served in the ranks of the Indian Army from 1924-1931 and as a Viceroy's Commissioned Officer before being commissioned in 1934. He joined the 2nd Battalion, 1st Punjab Regiment in 1936 and in 1939 was appointed Assistant Commandant of the 2nd Rangoon Battalion, Burma Military Police. He received the Military Cross for gallantry in Burma while attached to the Burma Intelligence Corps.
