Combined stove and mess tin, 1900 (c)
This stove was used by Trooper J A Moffatt of Kitchener's Fighting Scouts during the Boer War (1899-1902). The latter was one of several units raised in South Africa. There were two classes of enlistment in such formations, the first for service anywhere within the theatre of war, and the second whose service was confined to Cape Colony. Kitchener's Fighting Scouts was a regiment raised within the first category.
