Officer's pith helmet, Indian Signal Corps, 1938 (c)
Manufactured by B K Biswas and Company, Calcutta.
This helmet was worn by Captain (later Lieutenant-Colonel) Patrick Edward Nolan (born 1885). In common with other Europeans serving with Indian Signals, Nolan was seconded from the British Army's Royal Corps of Signals. Having served in the ranks from 1903, Nolan was commissioned and posted to the Indian Signals in March 1929, retiring to a Record Office post in Britain in August 1939.
The numeral '1' at centre front indicates 1st Division Signals, Indian Signal Corps.
