Letter from Mrs Catherine Younghusband to her aunt, 4 January 1816
This letter was sent from 'Plantation or Government House, St Helena'. Mrs Younghusband was the wife of Captain Robert Younghusband of the 53rd Regiment of Foot, who formed part of the garrison on the island). It relates her meeting and having dinner with Napoleon Bonaparte during his second exile after the Battle of Waterloo (1815).
From a collection of military papers from the Phipps family and others associated with the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815).
