Havildar Mohan Lal, Indian Artillery, receiving the Indian Distinguished Service Medal (IDSM) from General Sir Claude Auchinleck, 1944 (c)

The IDSM was awarded for distinguished service in the field to commissioned and non-commissioned officers and men of the Indian Army. Auchinleck was Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
