No 5 Mk I bayonet, 1947

Stamped with marks for Poole Arsenal.

The No 5 Mark I bayonet was used with the British No 5 Mark I Lee-Enfield rifle. The 'jungle carbine' was designed for use at close quarters in the jungles and forests of the Far East. The bayonet was produced during World War Two (1939-1945) primarily by Wilkinson Sword but also by manufacturers like Viners Limited in Sheffield. After the War, the Royal Ordnance Factory in Poole produced the bayonet.
