Havildar of Queen Victoria's Own Madras Sappers and Miners in warm weather field order, 1936

Havildar was the Indian equivalent rank to sergeant in the British Army. The Madras Sappers and Miners recruited many Indian Christians as well as Hindus and Moslems from across south and central India.
