Captain (later Major General Sir) Charles St Leger Barter, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
Barter served with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in South Africa during the Boer War (1899-1902). He was appointed Assistant Adjutant-General of the Thames District in 1902. Barter led the 47th (1st/2nd London) Division on the Western Front during World War One (1914-1918) from 1914 until 1916 when he was relieved of his command. He retired from the Army in 1918.
