Thompson M1928A1 .45 inch submachine gun, 1940 (c)
The Thompson was favoured by British soldiers for its reliabilty, compactness, large .45 bullet, and high volume of automatic fire. Most Thompson's were fitted with box magazines during the war rather than the drum magazines made infamous by gangsters during Prohibition in America.
