Heavy Cavalry Trooper's sword, Royal Horse Guards, 1796 (c)
This sword's blade is straight, flat backed and spear pointed. It has a steel or iron 'star' type guard with side bars and a wooden grip covered with leather and bound with steel wire. The Household Cavalry regiments were not required to correspond to cavalry patterns authorised for other regiments, as a result of this the documentation and dating of specimens before 1850 is difficult.
