This bronze medal was issued after the Duke of Cumberland's recapture of Carlisle from the Jacobites in December 1745. The city had originally been captured by Prince Charles Edward Stuart the previous month. The duke is shown wearing a tricorne hat, military coat and the star, riband and badge of the Order of the Bath.
