Bandolier for .45 ammunition worn by Trooper J H Evelyn, Royal East Kent (Duke of Connaught's Own) (Mounted Rifles) Imperial Yeomanry, 1900

A bandolier is a leather belt used for holding ammunition that is worn slung over the chest. During the Boer War (1899-1902) they were usually used by mounted units, including the Imperial Yeomanry. Infantry soldiers of the time carried their ammunition in pouches attached to their webbing.
