Beret, smock and trousers worn by a member of the Special Air Service (SAS), 1943 (c)
The sand coloured beret is distinctive of the SAS. The windproof smock and trousers are examples of wartime clothing available to the SAS and some other special forces' units such as the Special Boat Service (SBS). Soldiers from these formations fought alongside the resistance and undertook raids against Axis military installations and engaged in acts of sabotage.
