British steel helmet, universal pattern, Mark 3, 1943

Production of the Mark 3 steel helmet began in November 1943. Designed to give better protection than the First World War Mark 2 helmet, it was also more comfortable to wear. Assault units of 21st Army Group were re-equipped with Mk 3s in time for the D-Day landings in June 1944.
