The four soldiers, part of the British Army of the Rhine, are pictured during an exercise at Haltern near Munster in West Germany in 1978. Nuclear, Biological and Chemical - or NBC - attacks were constantly practised for in BAOR.

12 Air Defence Regiment were based in Dortmund - nicknamed the 'Gunner Ghetto' due to the number of artillery regiments stationed in and around it.
