Piquet in the Khyber Pass, 1919

Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 61st King George's Own Pioneers, man a picquet on the North West Frontier. They sit in a sangar, a temporary fortified position with a breastwork made of stone. Such positions were used to guard the heights along strategically vital roads and passes.
