Travelling upstream on a barge, 1916 (c)
Photograph, World War One, Mesopotamia, 1916 (c).
Indian Army troops relax on board a barge journeying up one of the major waterways of Mesopotamia. One of the soldiers is reading an English newspaper, perhaps passing on war-news to his comrades. The Indian Army supplied the bulk of the 'British' fighting forces in Mesopotamia.
