Gold Regimental Medal, 77th (East Middlesex) Regiment of Foot, 1820 (c)-1844 (c)

Before campaign medals, gallantry decorations and good conduct awards were introduced in the 19th century, many regiments rewarded outstanding service with their own 'unofficial' medals. The 77th's gold medal includes the motto 'Discite Hinc Juvenes' (The young learn from here).
