Combination entrenching tool, 1909
This rare entrenching tool, which is possibly a prototype, was patented in 1909 by William Macdonald Mackintosh and Tom Walton and has War Department marks. It was designed to be easily adjustable and easily transported and could be used in many different ways.
It has a square blade which can be altered to act as an axe or mattock, and on the opposite side has a hinged pick which can be folded away when not in use.
