The battalion was then serving as part of 29th Infantry Brigade in the 36th Division. It had spent the first two years of the war in India before moving to Madagascar in 1942. It returned to India in 1943 and served there and in Burma until the end of the war. In April 1946 the battalion landed in Japan to join the occupation forces.
