An armoured railcar at Sarafand Siding, Palestine, 1946
Photograph by Lieutenant P J R Waller, 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's), Palestine (1945-1948), 1946.
Members of the 12th Lancers check over their specially adapted armoured car. Able to move on rails, the cars allowed British forces to patrol the rail network and safeguard against bomb attacks by Jewish militant groups like the Irgun and Stern Gang.
