Shoulder belt plate, officer, Chirk Hundred Volunteers, 1803-1814
Rectangular gilt copper plate with rounded corners bearing the following incised design: within a garter bearing the title, 'Chirk Hundred Volunteers', the royal cypher 'GR', the whole surmounted by a monarchial crown. On the reverse a hook at centre upper edge and a stud fitting at each lower corner.
Volunteer units like the Chirk Hundred Volunteers in Denbighshire were formed to meet the potential threat from France during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic period.
