'Native Officers of Skinner's Horse, now the first and third Indian Cavalry', 1850 (c)
Two-tone photolithograph after a watercolour by William Carpenter, published by 'The Sphere', 26 November 1917.
The two officers depicted are a mounted Rissaldar (Troop commander) and a Woordie-Major (adjutant) of Skinner's Horse. Their units were raised by Captain (later Colonel) James Skinner (1778-1841) in 1803 and 1814 and wore distinctive yellow kurtas (long coats) that prompted the nickname 'the yellow boys'.
