Pattern 1803 Light Infantry Officer presentation sword, 1822

Made by John Read and Sons, Dublin.

The blade of this sword is decorated with engraving and bluing, and the ivory grip has a pommel in the shape of a light Dragoon's helmet.

Few records of Yeomanry units survive, however, it was customary for them to give expensive presentation swords to officers leaving the regiment as a mark of esteem, rather then for a specific exploit.

This weapon was presented to Captain Charles Brownlow, Lurgan Yeomanry Infantry, who became captain of the regiment in 1796 and spent 25 years in command.
