An unidentified officer of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot, 1840 (c)
Miniature portrait in watercolour on ivory, artist unknown, 1840 (c).
This half-length portrait of an officer in uniform, depicts him holding bearskin in his right hand and wearing a shoulder belt plate for the 70th Regiment.
In 1840 the 70th were on garrison duties in the West Indies, having deployed there in 1838. In 1841 they moved to Canada for two years.
