Colonel (Commandant) M J Tighe DSO, 56th Rifles, 1911

Colonel (later Lieutenant Colonel) Sir Michael Joseph Tighe (1864-1925) served with the Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) in the 3rd Burma War (1885-1887). He participated in the Chin-Lushai Expedition (1889-1890), the Red Karen Expedition (1889), the Chin Hills Expedition (1890-1891) and thw East African campaign (1895)He commanded the 56th Punjabi Rifles (Frontier Force), retiring in 1913. With the outbreak of World War One (1914-1918) Tighe returned to the Army and served as a Brigadier General in the East African campaign. He returned to India in 1917, served in the 3rd Afghan War (1919) and retired in 1925. He died in London in 1925.

The Coronation of King George V and his wife Queen Mary took place on 22 June 1911 at Westminster Abbey. This was followed by the Delhi Coronation Durbar on 12 December 1911, which was attended by around 100,000 people.
