Major Skipton Hill Climo William Knox-Niven, 24th Punjabis, 1911

Major (later Lieutenant General Sir) Skipton Hill Climo (1868-1937) was born on 24 December 1868 and educated at Shrewsbury School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He served with the 24th Punjabis and participated in the Malakand Field Force (1897-1898), 3rd China War (Boxer Rebellion) (1900-1901) and Tibet (1903-1904). The 24th Punjabis became the 4th Battalion, 14th Punjab Infantry in 1922. Climo was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his actions on the North West Frontier of India. During World War One (1914-1918) Climo served as a brigade commander in Mesopotamia. He was wounded but recovered and served in India, participating in the 3rd Afghan War (1919) and operations in Waziristan (1919-1920). He retired in 1923, settling in Folkestone, Kent. He died on 31 March 1937.

The Coronation of King George V and his wife Queen Mary took place on 22 June 1911 at Westminster Abbey. This was followed by the Delhi Coronation Durbar on 12 December 1911, which was attended by around 100,000 people.
