Major Edward Mary Joseph Molyneux, 12th Cavalry, 1911

Edward Mary Joseph Molyneux was born in 1866 and joined the 3rd Dragoon Guards in 1887. He transferred to the Indian Staff Corps in 1891 and served with the 12th Bengal Cavalry.

Molyneux, saw service on the North West Frontier of India, and served with Thorneycroft's Mounted infantry during the Boer War (1899-1902). Molyneux was Mentioned in Despatches for his actions. The entry for this award in the 'London Gazette' of 8 February 1901 describes him as a 'dashing and capable leader of men'. He was wounded in South Africa and in 1901 was made a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order.

Molyneux was an accomplished artist. He had a number of his paintings hung in the Royal Academy in London and won Viceroy's gold medals for his work in India. He died in India on the 29 January 1913.

The Coronation of King George V and his wife Queen Mary took place on 22 June 1911 at Westminster Abbey. This was followed by the Delhi Coronation Durbar on 12 December 1911, which was attended by around 100,000 people.
