Captain I U Battye, Queen's Own Corps of Guides Cavalry, 1911

Ivan Urmston Battye (1875-1953) was commissioned in 1895 into the Guides, a regiment that his family had a long and distinguished association with. He spent most of his career on regimental service, but did serve for a period as Commandant of the Small Arms School at Pachmarhi. He retired with the rank of colonel in 1923.

The Coronation of King George V and his wife Queen Mary took place on 22 June 1911 at Westminster Abbey. This was followed by the Delhi Coronation Durbar on 12 December 1911, which was attended by around 100,000 people.
