Browning M1919A4 .30 inch machine gun, 1950 (c)
The Browning became the standard US medium machine gun of World War Two (1939-1945). During the early stages of the Korean War (1950-1953) the British units involved were seriously short of equipment. They used the Browning as well as the British Vickers machine gun. The fact that it was air-cooled was an advantage during the Korean summer when water was in short supply and in the winter when water often froze.
