The bridge at Nijmegen, 21 September 1944

The road bridge at Nijmegen was temporarily captured by American airborne forces during Operation Market Garden in September 1944 and was subjected to repeated German attacks in order to prevent 30 Corps pushing on to Arnhem. The bridge and town were finally secured by the First Canadian Army in November 1944.
