Japanese Type 97 grenade, 1943
The Type 97 was the standard fragmentation grenade of Japanese forces in World War Two (1939-1945).
This grenade was reputedly recoverd from an outpost of Burmese forces fighting with the Japanese at Kalewa, North Arakan, Burma. The outpost was attacked and captured on the night of 28/29 August 1943, by elements of 'V' Force under Lieutenant Colonel W J Parsons, DSO.
