Master Gunner Robert Turner, Windsor, Berkshire, 1880 (c)

Master Gunner Robert Turner, shown here wearing full dress uniform and standing beside a cannon on the battlements of Fort Belvedere at Windsor Park, was a veteran of the Crimean War (1854-1856). At the date of this photograph he was said to have been the oldest soldier serving in the Royal Artillery. He was still serving as Assistant Master Gunner at Fort Belvedere when he died in 1910 at the age of 89.
