United Nations Cyprus Medal 1964 awarded to Private C J Butler, 3rd Battalion The Queen's Regiment
The British Army's peace-keeping duties help maintain European stability and provide humanitarian aid to people in crisis. In recent years, British soldiers have served with their European allies as peacekeepers with United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces in Cyprus (1964-2019), Bosnia (1992-96) and Kosovo (1999).
British soldiers have prevented fighting, monitored disputed borders, maintained law and order, provided medical assistance, cleared mines and promoted a return to normality in war-torn regions.
From a medal group awarded to Private Colin James Butler, 3rd Battalion Queen's Regiment.
