Dromedary Fruit Bar ration, 1944 (c)
Two ounce fruit bar from a US Army K-Ration Breakfast Unit, World War Two, Far East (1941-1945). The wrapper is inscribed 'Packed by The Hills Brothers Company New York N.Y. Net Wt 2 Oz'.
K-Rations were composed of chopped ham and eggs, coffee, biscuits, cigarettes, a fruit bar, chewing gum, water purification tablets and toilet paper. They were American in origin and designed for mobile troops such as paratroops, and to be used for a short duration. Major General Orde Wingate selected them for the second Chindit expedition, Operation THURSDAY, during the campaign in Burma.
