Charles Leonard Hartwell was an English sculptor in bronze and marble. He was an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1915 and became a Member of the Royal Academy in 1925.
This statuette is a miniature of the statue, 'The Bugler', on the Royal Sussex Regiment Boer War Memorial in Regency Square, in Brighton. The memorial lists the 156 officers, NCOs and men of the regiment who died in South Africa during the Boer War (1899-1902).
