Kennington (1888-1960) was an English sculptor, artist and illustrator, and an official war artist in both the World Wars. During 1942 he travelled around Britain, visiting military installations and producing hundreds of portraits of soldiers, sailors and airmen, including this depiction of Sergeant Sutton. Kennington exhibited this work at the Royal Academy in 1957.
