'Tommy', 1918 (c)
Bronze bust, by an unknown artist, 1918 (c).
This soldier is shown wearing a 'Brodie' or Mark I pattern steel combat helmet. However, the sculptor has sculpted it without a chin strap. The Army had adopted this model of helmet in 1915 but it was not until spring of the following year that it began to be issued to British troops in large numbers.
