Webley .455 inch Mk I breech-loading service revolver, 1893 (c)

Manufactured by Webley and Scott, Birmingham.

The heavy Enfield revolvers introduced in 1880 were not popular and were replaced in 1890 with the Webley Mk 1, which cost 61 shillings (£3 1s.) each. This compact revolver with a four inch barrel became the standard British Army sidearm and remained in service, with various modifications, into the 1930s and beyond. By 1894, 35,000 revolvers had been produced.

This particular pistol was first issued in 1893 and in 1897 was in service with the 19th (Princess of Wales's Own) Hussars. It also bears numerous marks including those for the Royal Artillery and the 21st Hussars.
