General Service Medal 1962-2007, with oakleaf and clasp, 'Northern Ireland', Fusilier J Y Ferguson, Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment)
Circular silver medal with the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscription, 'Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina F.D.', on the obverse. On the reverse, the inscription, 'For Campaign Service'. The rim is impressed with the recipient's name and service number. The medal ribbon is purple with green edges.
Ferguson was Mention in Despatches for his actions during an Irish Republican Army ambush at Crossmaglen jn Northern Ireland, on the 2 January 1977. Ferguson was wounded in the attack on his patrol in South Armagh's notorious 'Bandit Country' but recovered his weapon and returned fire.
